Headteacher's Welcome to First Base Ipswich Pupil Referral Unit.
A warm welcome to you at the start of this new Autumn term.
We are delighted to welcome new children and staff at the start of this academic year. I am pleased to share that I am now Head Teacher of First Base, Alderwood and St. Christopher's pupil referral units. As I take on this exciting challenge Miss Laws will be supporting me at First Base as Senior Teacher and Head of School when I am not on site. We are welcoming Mrs Noble as a teacher to the unit and Mrs Dale, Miss Middlebrook and Mrs Rookyard as new Inclusion Support Workers. They bring with them a wealth of expertise and experiences and we look forward to them being a part of our team.
During the Autumn Term new children began their time at First Base and settled well into their groups. Whilst we said goodbye to others as they successfully returned to their mainstream schools, following a celebration of their time with us, and an opportunity to reflect on their successes. In their new groups the children voted for class identities. Miss Fairweather's class decided to be known as Foxes and Mrs Noble and Miss Laws' class voted to be Squirrels. You can visit their new class pages on the website to see how busy they have already been this half term.
The children have been very excited at the development of our site over the summer holidays and the changes that they came to back to in September. Our staff room was changed into a new teaching and learning space for the children. More exciting however, was the arrival of our new canopy, pictured above. It will allow the children to continue to play and learn outside during the wet winter months. They have already been making great use of it. We need to say a big THANK YOU to Town 102 for the funds raised to get our amazing new canopy.
First Base Ipswich has been recognised as an 'Outstanding’ provision by Ofsted! We are particularly proud that the inspectors noted that, ‘All children feel welcome, safe and highly valued. All staff show remarkable patience, tolerance and understanding and parents and carers enthuse about the unit.’ Please follow the link to see the full report issued on 9th September 2016.
First Base will continue to evolve and adapt in order to sustain and build upon the already excellent practice and to meet the needs of children in South Suffolk. Our core values of reflection, engagement, resilience and success will be firmly at the heart of all that we do, whilst securing improved outcomes for the children we work with. Our First Base Learning Teams have been busy tweaking our curriculum to ensure that the children understand and learn what each of these values mean.
We are a busy but friendly Pupil Referral Unit, with lots going on. This website aims to give you a taster of the PRU, as well as providing up to date information for parents, pupils and the wider community.
We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find the information you are looking for. Please feel free to contact the PRU direct with any queries you may have.
With best regards
