Welcome

Headteacher's Welcome to First Base Ipswich Pupil Referral Unit.

A warm welcome to you as we enter the spring term and 2017, and begin our plans to ensure that this term is as successful as the last!

During the Autumn Term new children began their time at First Base and settled well into their groups.  Whilst we said goodbye to others as they successfully returned to their mainstream schools, following a celebration of their time with us, and an opportunity to reflect on their successes.

At First Base we listen to the children in order to find out what interests them and the First Base Learning Teams then set about trying to creatively include these areas of interest into the curriculum. So as both the Meerkats and Penguins class said that they loved wild animals, I was not at all surprised to find 12 wild animals arriving at First Base one morning in December! Thanks to Kimmys Zoo the children were not only able to learn about the animals by looking at them, they could even touch and hold them. I was very proud to hear that the team from Kimmy’s Zoo were impressed with the way that the children listened to and followed all of their instructions and that they can’t wait to visit us again.

We ended the term on a real high note, as the children performed the first ever First Base Christmas Production at our local church All Hallows. They provided their parents, carers, school staff and members of the community with a real treat.

First Base Ipswich has been recognised as an 'Outstanding’ provision by Ofsted! We are particularly proud that the inspectors noted that, ‘All children feel welcome, safe and highly valued. All staff show remarkable patience, tolerance and understanding and parents and carers enthuse about the unit.’  Please follow the link to see the full report issued on 9th September 2016.

First Base Ipswich Ofsted Report June 2016

First Base will continue to evolve and adapt in order to sustain and build upon the already excellent practice and to meet the needs of children in South Suffolk.  Our core values of  reflection, engagement, resilience and success will be firmly at the heart of all that we do, whilst securing improved outcomes for the children we work with. Our First Base Learning Teams have been busy tweaking our curriculum to ensure that the children understand and learn what each of these values mean.

We are a busy but friendly Pupil Referral Unit, with lots going on. This website aims to give you a taster of the PRU, as well as providing up to date information for parents, pupils and the wider community.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find the information you are looking for.  Please feel free to contact the PRU direct with any queries you may have.

With best regards

Francesca Alexander
